About Me

Rajesh Ramoutar is a sitarist who resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He began learning sitar from his first guru, Bharti Chokshi, who has directly learned from the great Vidushi Manju Mehta, one of India's most renowned female sitarists. Vidushi Manju Mehta, senior disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, and hailing from a very well known family of musicians in Jaipur, she combined beauty, creativity and tradition to bring out the "Rasa" of Indian Classical music.

Along this time, he has also received training from various musicians like Pandit Krishna Mohan Bhatt, Vidushi Anupama Bhagwat, Sitarist Chirag Katti, Mahzar Hameed, one of Pakistans great Ghazaliyas, and numerous others over the past eighteen years.

Taking inspiration from different gharanas of sitar as well as Hindustani classical and semi classical vocal, tabla and kathak, he incorporates and utilizes some of the technicality along with the bhaav (expression) within his formal Maihar Senia training, while still striving to uphold the raag’s integrity and purity.
